Locals go the extra mile for for cancer research at the Race for life at Newbury Racecourse today
Enthusiastic fundraisers went the extra mile on Sunday (October 3) as they walked, jogged and ran their way around Newbury Racecourse for Cancer Research.
Hundreds turned up, water bottles and smiles at the ready - to take on the Race for Life challenge for a great cause.
The 5k race began at 12.30pm and the 10k 11.30am.
The 5k course was mostly on grass, and flat, with views of the racecourse throughout.
Friends and family came out to support their loved ones, as well as strolling around the many stalls that were open.
According to Cancer Research, the 1970s saw less than a quarter of people with cancer survive but over the last 40 years survival has doubled.
Today half will survive and Cancer Research aims to on keep working to accelerate progress and see three-quarters of people surviving the disease within the next 20 years.
