Newbury College and Educafe team up to provide educational courses for non-native English speakers

Newbury College and Educafe are offering a new range of courses from November to give extra support to non-native speakers in the community.

The new courses are designed to provide comprehensive language support to individuals from diverse backgrounds to ensure they can thrive both academically and socially.

Educafe’s weekly community cafe welcomes hundreds at Newbury Library each week.

Many of its non-native speakers have developed their English language skills through its drop-in conversation sessions, affectionately known as ‘Chatty Corner’, which are essential to them pursuing further work and study.

Director of Educafe Clare Middleton said: “Many of Educafe’s learners are trying to improve their language skills to secure employment and build a life here in West Berkshire.

“Being welcomed to Newbury College will help reinforce they are part of our community and boost their confidence.”

Jo Houghton, vice principal of higher education and skills at Newbury College, added: “Our mission has always been to provide exceptional education that serves the community, and this partnership allows us to extend our reach and impact even further.

“We believe these courses will positively impact community connection and development of skills, setting learners up for employment or further training.”

The courses will include an ‘English for Work’ Job Support Club, Business Communications and Life in the UK: Living in the Community.
