Parsons Down infant and junior school's now on one site
A project bringing an infant and junior school together on one site has been completed.
There was an official opening of the Parsons Down Partnership last Thursday.
It includes a refurbished library, kitchen, new classrooms and medical space.
There is also an early years external learning space and a new all-weather sports pitch.
The works were funded from West Berkshire Council’s capital budget.
The council said the work was designed to provide an energy efficient site with low running and maintenance costs.
West Berkshire’s executive member for children, young people and education Dominic Boeck said: “Bringing the schools together has enabled not only quality accommodation and a better use of space, but has given us the opportunity to increase the outdoor space significantly and install a fabulous all weather surface multi-use games area.
“Both schools now have cost efficient, modern learning environments that will bring great benefits to current and future pupil generations.”
The building refurbishment works were designed to provide an “energy efficient site with low running and maintenance costs”.
Headteacher Catherine Bull said: “We’re delighted with the new outdoor and learning spaces the building project has provided.
“It enables all pupils to learn in an environment which encourages collaboration and access to fantastic resources both inside and out.
"Children in Foundation Stage have an impressive, new, bespoke indoor and outdoor learning space which inspires and challenges them and gives the very best start to their learning journey at Parsons Down.”
She said the library was extended and remodelled and the all-weather-pitch was transformed the sports provision.
Mrs Bull added: “Pupils can enjoy a range of sports at lunchtimes and during PE lessons in a safe and purpose built area that can be used whatever the weather.”
