Parkway car park never looked so good as TopGear comes to town
TOPGEAR came to Newbury recently, when it choose the town’s new Parkway shopping centre as the location for a shoot.
Unfortunately for fans of the famous BBC2 TV show none of the presenters was on hand - as this was for a feature in the programme’s sister magazine.
TopGear’s motoring editor, Oliver Marriage told the Newbury Weekly News what brought them to Newbury: “We were looking for an underground car park as a location to make three new coupes look suitably stylish, but it needed to be clean and fresh, rather than dark and dingy. As I live locally I knew the Parkway car park, and that it could work really well as a photographic location.”
Shooting at night so as to minimize disruption, the TopGear crew used both levels of the car park and brought in extra lighting rigs in order to achieve the specific effects they were after.
The results – and their verdict on the Hyundai Veloster, VW Scirocco and Vauxhall Astra GTC that featured – can be seen in March’s edition of the magazine, on sale now, but a sneak preview of the shots are features, courteousy of Ripley & Ripley photography and TopGear.
