Over 90 per cent of places sold for Newbury 10k on May 26
Runners are getting prepared for this year’s Newbury 10k with Newbury Athletic Club reporting that 90 per cent of places for the 2025 event have now been sold.
The popular community running race is taking place on Monday, May 26, and 2025 will mark the 15th staging of the event with all profits going to Newbury Cancer Care and Eight Bells for Mental Health.
Last year, more than £20,000 was raised for local charities.
Newbury Athletic Club race director Jeff Bird said: “Demand for this year’s race has completely surpassed our expectations.
“Having seen exceptionally strong repeat bookings from our previous participants, we’re now on track to sell out in the next two to three weeks – that’s a couple of months earlier than last year.”
Newbury 10k consists of the hallmark 10km race for over 15s, as well as two shorter distances for juniors.
Having made improvements to the course over recent years, the organisers announced that this year’s race route will be unchanged from 2024.
Participants will set off from Newbury Market Place in a closed road environment.
They will then venture out into the local countryside in Speen, enjoy a stretch along the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath and then return to the town centre via Enborne Road and Craven Road.
The two junior races take place on closed roads in the town centre.
All events are chip timed.
Mr Bird added: “The runners receive such warm support from residents all around the course and, of course, from the crowds in the town centre.
“It’s become a real annual occasion for Newbury which the athletic club is so proud to stage.
“It’s great to see people wearing their finisher’s T-shirt for weeks and months afterwards.”
