Over 400 entries at this year's Aldermaston and Wasing Show
Despite early concerns over the weather, the Aldermaston and Wasing Show was a huge success, enjoyed by many in the late summer sunshine.
The 80-year-old event, which originated in support of the dig for victory campaign in 1942, had over 400 entries displayed in the produce and craft marquee this year.
Taking place at The Old Mill on Sunday, September 4, the show featured its famous duck derby race alongside a whole host of other attractions, including a classic car show and a grand raffle.
The Aldermaston and Wasing Show committee chairman Clive Vare said: “This year we raised money for two local charities, West Berkshire Foodbank and the Sue Ryder Foundation, who both had stands at the show.
“I depend on the tireless show committee, our volunteers and produce judges to make the show happen and in such a spectacular fashion each year.”
The prolonged drought and heatwave did not affect the quality of the produce entries with some classes being keenly contested.
There were some particularly inspirational displays of vegetable collections, as well as some fantastic fruits, onions and carrots.
Show winners included Hannah Perry who won the Banksian Medal, as well as cups for her vegetables and flower arrangements, Tiffany Ebrey who won the cup for best craft exhibit, Jack Arlott who won two cups for baking, and Debbie Buckett who won the popular Jenny Franklin cup for her fruit cake.
The Watchorn family did very well this year with the three children Connie, Evie and Hetty all winning cups in junior categories.
Tadley Brass Band played throughout the afternoon as the Silver Swans dance troupe entertained the crowds.
Mr Vare also called upon local people to get involved and volunteer so that the show can keep going ahead year on year.
