More than 1,200 people in Newbury are having an affair, data from Illict Encounters suggests

More than 1,200 people are having extra-marital affairs in Newbury with adultery believed to be on the rise across Berkshire, new data suggests.

A recent study has stated that 1,203 Newburians, or 3.78 per cent of the town’s population, are currently being unfaithful to their spouses.

This is a one per cent decrease when compared to last year’s number of 1,215.

The data is part of ‘the official infidelity index 2022' which was created by married-dating website Illicit Encounters.

IllicitEncounters.com spokeswoman Jessica Leoni said: “We have seen a small fall in affairs in Newbury but big rises in many other parts of Berkshire over the last year.

“Affairs are likely to rise again in Newbury over the next few months. The run-up to Christmas is always a boom time for affairs because most people are back in the office and looking for some fun.”

In comparison, Thatcham’s number of cheats has dropped considerably, with the number going from 740 to 255 over the last year.

The index states 172 people are having an affair in the Hungerford area, and there are 431 cheats in the North Hampshire area around Kingsclere.

Berkshire's adultery capital is Maidenhead with 2,854 cheats – a big rise on last year's figure of 1,894.
