UPDATE: Theale road reopens after emergency repairs
UPDATE: An emergency road closure in Theale has been lifted.
The Green has now reopened after Thames Water finished carrying out emergency repairs it had started last Tuesday (January 14), West Berkshire Council has confirmed.
It added there is still equipment on site that needs to be collected and removed, which will be done by tomorrow (Thursday). And be a road sweeper will be clearing any mess left on the road.
The emergency repairs began after groundwater washed subsoil into a manhole Thames Water was working on in the road.
The road closure was extended until today (Wednesday) while the water company conducted a survey to ensure there were no further ‘voids’ under the carriageway before it was reopened to traffic.
Newburytoday also understands the road closure was also to enable Thames Water’s contractor Cappagh Browne to fit water connections for 100 properties.
Its permit was in place until Sunday (January 26), but the works have now finished ahead of schedule, just as 10 weeks of SGN gas works are due to begin in Theale High Street on Monday (January 27).
The emergency closure caused increased traffic congestion and forces buses to be diverted around Theale.
