Newbury welcomes return of 10k race

After a four year wait, Newbury Athletics Club has announced the return of the town's 10k race.

Newbury Athletics Club will be hosting its hallmark 10k race, now in its 13th year, on Monday, May 29.

The event will be fundraising for Berkshire Youth, a charity helping to educate and support young people to achieve their full potential.

"We are thrilled to offer this running event once again," said race director at Newbury Athletics Club, Jeff Bird.

"It was always hugely popular, attracting people from not only Newbury and Berkshire but also our surrounding counties. Huge thanks must go to our sponsors, Newbury BID (Business Improvement District) and our local landowners for their support and making it all possible.

"We welcome entries from runners of all abilities, from novices to experienced athletes. This is very much an opportunity for any type of runner."

Participants will start from the heart of the town in a supporter-friendly closed road environment.

The 10k runners will then venture out into the beautiful local countryside before enjoying a flat return to the high street via the tow path of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The two junior races for under 16s will take place on closed roads in the town centre.

Entries are now open and must be made in advance. Visit https://www.newburyac.org.uk/road-running/newbury10k and runbritain.com/races for further details.

New sponsors include Stryker and Gardner Leader Solicitors.
