Newbury voted best place to live in Berkshire

Newbury has been named, by a local lifestyle blog, as the best place to live in Berkshire.

As a part of the publication's 'Best Places to Live 2022' series, a national vote was held this year in an attempt to find the top best 200 places to live.

Newbury, coming top in its county, was followed closely by other desirable West Berkshire villages.

Writers at Muddy Stilettos favoured the town for its river location (Kennet and Avon Canal), vibrant market and buzzy foodie scene.

It was also noted as a place to soak up history with its period architecture and independent shops.

Newbury’s proximity to open countryside also tipped the scales with it being favoured over the affluent towns of Windsor and Wokingham.

Other West Berkshire towns that made the list were Pangbourne in fourth and Yattendon in fifth.

Pangbourne was called a “Berkshire box ticker” with the lifestyle publication championing its river location, great schools and cosy pubs.

The quintessentially Berkshire “roses-around-the-door charm” of Yattendon was called a rural dream.
