Newbury school gets sporting donation

Falkland Primary School pupils looking forward to getting active

PUPILS from Falkland Primary School are looking forward to getting active this winter after receiving new sporting equipment.

The school was one of the top 10 collecting organisations in the country for the 2016 Sainsbury’s Active Kids scheme, with an incredible 34,000 vouchers.

On Friday, store manager Rob Barnes and PR ambassador Carol Irwin, from Sainsbury’s Newbury store, attended a PE session to present the new equipment, along with Newbury MP Richard Benyon.

The school has been registered to the Sainsbury’s Active Kids scheme since it was launched in 2005 and redeemed this year’s vouchers for a bumper delivery of equipment to use in PE lessons, playtimes and Early Years outdoor play, including scoop sets, cricket bats, ankle skips, skipping ropes, hockey bibs and bean bags.

Sainsbury’s customers collected vouchers in-store between January and May, based on the amount spent. They were then passed on to schools, groups and clubs to be redeemed in exchange for a variety of equipment and experiences.

School PE co-ordinator Allison Barlow said: “Customers at Sainsbury’s Newbury have been really supportive this year and it’s great that we’ve received so many vouchers.”
