APPRENTICES from a Newbury hair salon helped it take home a runner-up award for salon of the year in a national competition.
Four trainee stylists from Julian's Hair Salons, which has branches in Newbury and Thatcham, entered into the annual Span Training and Development competition in Oxford and between them won third place for the salon.
The team, Becky Eggleton, Anna McDonald, Amy Tennent, and Sophie Gower, were tasked with creating a unique look on the theme of salons around the world.
Business owner Julian Hendey, who founded the Julian's brand 30 years ago, said: "We're ecstatic with the outcome of the competition.
"Our focus has always been on staff training and growing from within, it's always fantastic to see it pay off.
"Juniors are integral to the success of our salon and we're very proud of them all."
