Kings Road in Newbury to remain closed for gas main works until December 20
The closure of a town centre road has been extended for two more weeks.
Kings Road, which has been shut since August 1, was due to reopen on Tuesday, December 5.
But Newburytoday can reveal that the closure order has been extended for another 15 days and the road may not now open until December 20.
West Berkshire Council’s highways team said the date will, however, be revised as the works progress.
“The reason for this is due to delays in the concrete pour, the concrete requires ‘curing time’ and therefore be subject to sample testing at various weekly/fortnightly intervals, hence the outcome of these tests will dictate dates,” it added.
The road is currently closed from its junction with Boundary Road to its junction with Hectors Way so SGN can replace a gas main.
At the time West Berkshire Council stated: “Whilst the works will cause considerable inconvenience, these works are considered essential.”
Boundary Road has also been closed to northbound traffic, with only southbound traffic permitted from its junction with Kings Road to its junction with Railway Road.
