Company which runs Newbury pub heads towards liquidation

THE company which runs The King Charles Tavern in Newbury town centre could be heading for voluntary liquidation.

Vital Events (UK) Ltd has been trading as The King Charles Tavern and The Broad Face pub in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

A resolution to wind up the company is to be considered at a general meeting of company members on Tuesday, July 25.

The Cheap Street watering hole is a former CAMRA West Berkshire pub of the year.

The current move towards liquidation of the company does not mean it will necessarily close.

The Newbury Weekly News revealed in May how director Joshua Khan had also put another company, J and G (Pubs) (UK) Ltd, which ran The Great Shefford village pub, into voluntary liquidation.

In that case, the creditors were HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

In 2021, The Great Shefford had a £1m refurbishment, while The King Charles Tavern in Cheap Street, Newbury, had an £80,000 makeover.

Mr Khan said since that cornavirus lockdowns had a devastating effect on his businesses.

Creditors in respect of the King Charles Tavern can contact liquidator Brendan P. Hogan on 0800 061 4002, or via email at info@cromwellinsolvency.co.uk
