Newbury hospice seeks new volunteers

Designed to appeal to people of retirement age who are looking for a new hobby or a chance to socialise with others, roles currently available at the Sue Ryder Charles Clore Day Hospice at West Berkshire Community hospital include drivers, co-drivers and day therapy assistants.
Volunteers would ideally be able to make a long-term commitment to the role, but could choose when and how much time they want to commit.
Duties include driving patients to and from the unit or assisting with the overall running of the day centre, chatting to patients and serving refreshments.
Volunteer co-ordinator at the unit, Donna Prince, said: "We’re a very friendly group and we’re looking for volunteers who really want to get involved, meet new people and feel part of a team.
“Volunteering with Sue Ryder’s Charles Clore Day Hospice is not just rewarding – it can provide people with a whole set of new skills and gives people who may otherwise stay at home a chance to get out and socialise. Over the years volunteering has evolved and become more diverse and professional and recognises that it needs to be a mutually beneficial activity.
“Whether you’re retired, keen to develop your CV or simply feeling a bit lonely, we’d encourage you to give volunteering a go."
