New nightclub for Newbury?

Montys in Cheap Street has been sold to Spin Nightclub, although no date for opening has yet been confirmed

NEWBURY town centre could soon be home to a new nightclub.

Montys in Cheap Street, which had been owned by a consortium of investors led by James Sumsion and Matt Franklin, has this week been sold to Spin Nightclub, which currently has a late night venue in Wokingham called Spin Bar and Nightclub.

Mr Sumsion said: “We have had two and a half years of profitable trading and now the time is right to move on.”

He added that investors had enjoyed a dividend payment and 100 per cent of their capital back, while he thanked them and Montys customers for their support.

Mr Franklin added: “We have had some fantastic times at Montys and would like to wish the new owners every success.”

It is understood that the staff will be retained by the new owners, although no one from Spin could be contacted to confirm this or an opening date for the venue as Newburytoday.co.uk's sister newspaper, the Newbury Weekly News went to press yesterday (Wednesday).

However, a page has been created for the ‘Spin Bar and Nightclub Newbury' on the social networking website Facebook and Spin's own website says the Newbury venue will be ‘coming soon'.
