New council chairman and committees set to be announced

FRESH faces, so to speak, will soon be helping to turn the cogs of local democracy, as West Berkshire Council prepares to elect its new chairman and committee members.The current outgoing chairman of the council Peter Argyle (Con, Birch Copse) will preside over the annual meeting, in which every committee, from planning, to the licensing, will be selected from the body of elected councillors.

All politically-motivated eyes will be on the leader of the council Graham Jones (Con, Lambourn) who has hinted he may shuffle his cabinet and bring in new names to oversee the council’s portfolios.

The meeting will be held at the council’s Market Street chambers on Thursday (May 10) at 7pm.
