New closure of Kings Road and Boundary Road in Newbury is announced by West Berkshire Council
A new closure of two Newbury roads – which caused traffic chaos last week – has been announced.
Kings Road and Boundary Road will now be closed for three days this coming Bank Holiday weekend (Augusts 27–29).
The roads were initially closed on Monday, but by Wednesday evening they were reopened temporarily while a new plan to carry out the works is drawn up, after residents complained of days of "pure hell".
The closures were put in place to allow highway and drainage improvements associated with the Sterling Cables development to be carried out and were due to last for around seven weeks.
From Saturday Kings Road will be closed between its junctions with Boundary Road and Hectors Way, while Boundary Road will be closed between its junctions with Railway Road and Mill Lane/Bone Lane.
The crossroads where Kings Road meets Boundary Road will be closed to traffic in all directions.
The one-way restrictions on Kings Road and Boundary Road will be suspended in order to maintain access for residents, with residents of Kings Road able to gain access at the traffic signals near Sainsbury’s.
The roads are expected to reopen by Tuesday.
Last Monday police were forced to close Mill Lane so they could get their emergency vehicles in and out of Newbury Police Station.
Residents and businesses told Newburytoday of their anger and frustration as traffic ground to a halt for hours.
