Mum has head shaved in aid of cancer charity

A MUM made a “bald” decision to have her head shaved recently to raise funds for a cancer charity.

Rachel Leigh, 42, underwent the sponsored hair cut at Ginchey Hair in Newbury for Brave the Shave, which has seen men and women up and down the country have their heads shaved in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The mum-of-one said she had decided to undergo the dramatic transformation after losing a number of family members to the illness.

She said: “I am doing this head shave to help raise money so that others can have the opportunity for the same help and support that we were lucky enough to have.

“I lost my mum in February after a year-ong battle with pancreatic cancer.

“I have also lost a father-in-law, grandad and a dear uncle to cancer and the Macmillan nurses were the most wonderful caring people that we could have hoped for in our times of sadness.”

Following the head shave, Rachel admits she is still getting used to her new look but says she is glad to have gone through with it.

She said: “It was nerve-wracking but I’m glad I did it.

“A lot of people have said that it must be hard to shave my head, especially being a woman, but if I can raise money and awareness then as far as I am concerned it’s a small price to pay.”
