Mugging in Newbury




Police are seeking witnesses after a man was dragged into an alleyway, assaulted and robbed

A MAN walking home in Newbury in the early hours of Saturday morning was assaulted and mugged.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occured at 12.30am on Saturday, January 8.

The 51-year-old victim sustained a cut lip and a swollen nose and cheek after two men dragged him from Craven Road into an alleyway that leads to St David's Road, where they assaulted him and stole his wallet.

The assailants then made off in separate directions, one towards Newbury town centre and the other towards the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The offenders have been described as white; one was a man in his twenties, 5ft 9in tall and of a stocky build.

He was wearing a black bobble hat and a grey hooded top with the hood up, and a black scarf covering his face.

The second was thought to be a teenager aged between 16 and 17-years-old; around 5ft 5in and of slim build.

He was wearing blue jeans and white trainers.
