The 34-year-old, of Pigeons Farm Road, Greenham, is accused of driving a white Land Rover Discovery on the A4 at Newbury on December 7 last year when the amount of the Class B-controlled drug cannabis in his system exceeded the specified limit.

Mr Stevens, who was legally represented by Ian Jackson, spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to the single charge.

He was told the case could proceed no further that day and that it would be adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

Mr Stevens was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
