Morrisons opens in Newbury today (Monday)
A ribbon will be cut at 9am by the chairman of the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, Rob Dean, to mark the opening of the M convenience store at the site of the former HMV shop, which closed in March after the chain entered administration.
Store Manager, Jay Patel, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Morrisons M local to Newbury and are looking forward to being a new addition to the community.
"We’re confident customers will love what they see and hope they’ll come down and visit us when we open.”
The opening of the M store will bring another supermarket to the town centre and could spark a store war as big chains Tescos, Marks and Spencers and Wilkinsons, along with local traders, will battle for high street custom.
Morrisons will be the latest supermarket to open in Newbury after Aldi opened its store in London Road in March.
