Newbury Mayor Andy Moore presents Community Furniture Project volunteers with awards

Disabled and disadvantaged volunteers at the Newbury Community Resource Centre (NCRC) were treated to a visit by the mayor of Newbury who presented them with certificates of achievement.

The volunteers attend NCRC’s Training and Community Support Centre in Bone Lane – located within the Community Furniture Project premises – as well as its Growing 2gether project near Kingsclere.

Several of them successfully completed accredited training courses in a range of skills, including woodwork, horticulture, bicycle repair, health and safety and customer service, and Newbury mayor Andy Moore attended the centre to present them with their course certificates.

Stuart Young, senior training officer at the Newbury Community Resource Centre, said: “The volunteers were delighted to meet the mayor and to receive certificates in recognition of all their hard work over the past few months.

“I’m very proud of them all.”

The courses, which can be tailored to suit all ability levels, are designed by LASER (Learning Awards South East Region) and funded with the support of West Berkshire Council’s Adult and Community Learning Department.
