The 34-year-old, of Meadowsweet Close, Thatcham, stands charged with coercive control.

Specifically, the charge alleges that he repeatedly or continuously engaged in such behaviour towards Emily Stacey, with whom he was in a relationship, in Newbury and Thatcham between June 18 and September 12 last year, that behaviour having a serious effect on her.

Magistrates sent the case to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury sitting at Reading Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

Mr Double was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
