Newbury man David Berridge charged with assaulting and threatening woman
A MAN has been charged with assaulting a woman and sending a threatening message.
David Berridge appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, December 14 last year.
The 34-year-old, of Freeman Court, off West Street in Newbury, is accused of assaulting Amy Cox by beating her in Newbury, on June 13 last year.
Mr Berridge also faces two charges of causing criminal damage to Ms Cox’s property on the same occasion, involving plant pots, ornaments and a Ring doorbell.
Finally, he is accused of making a threatening telephone call to Ms Cox on June 15 last year for the purpose of her causing distress or anxiety.
Duty solicitor Mandy Hargun told the court that Mr Berridge was currently legally unrepresented and asked for an adjournment.
District judge Samuel Goozee granted the adjournment but strongly advised Mr Berridge to take advantage of legal advice before the next hearing, when he will be expected to enter pleas to the charges.
He was meanwhile granted bail with conditions.
