Major town centre road to close for four months so that SGN can replace gas main




A major Newbury town centre road will be closed for four months from August.

Kings Road will be closed from its junction with Boundary Road to its junction with Hectors Way from Tuesday, August 1 until Tuesday, December 5 so SGN can replace a gas main.

West Berkshire Council stated: “Whilst the works will cause considerable inconvenience, these works are considered essential.”

Boundary Road will close to northbound traffic. Only southbound traffic will be permitted from its junction with Kings Road to its junction with Railway Road.

Two-way traffic will be available for residential, blue light and service access only.

Access to Hambridge Road will be via Mill Lane (non-HGV traffic only) and from its junction with the A4.

HGV’s will be required to enter and exit Hambridge Road via its junction with the A4.

One-way traffic along Kings Road will be suspended and a two-way system will be implemented to facilitate resident access (when available).

The diversion will be signed on site.
