A34 closed between the A339 at Donnington and the A4 at Speen, with diversions in place due to lorry fire
UPDATE - 10.25am: One lane has now been reopened after firefighters extinguished the flames on a lorry fire earlier today.
Traffic is still very heavy in the area and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys while recovery continues.
The road is expected to be fully cleared by 11am.
9.45am: Emergency services have been called to the A34 this morning following a lorry fire.
The incident happened around 8.30am and the road has been closed in the southbound direction between the junctions for the A339 Donnington and A4 Speen.
National Highways initially closed one lane of the A34, but due to the severity of the incident they have now closed the entire carriageway.
Firefighters are currently on the scene tackling the blaze, and diversions are in place.
A post on social media from National Highways warns of 10 minute delays and around a mile of congestion in the approach.
The road is not expected to reopen until around 1pm.
Road users are advised to follow the Solid Triangle diversion symbol on road signs:
- From the A34 leave at the A339 Donnington Link Interchange.
- Continue on the A339 for approximately two miles into Newbury.
- Continue through Newbury on the A339 to the B4640 roundabout.
- Take the second exit and join the B4640.
- Continue on the B4640 for approximately two miles to the A34 Tot Hill Interchange.
- At the roundabout, take the second exit to re-join the A34 southbound.
