Locals included in The Sunday Times Rich List 2023
The Sunday Times has published its 2023 Rich List and some notable West Berkshire and North Hampshire residents have made the cut.
The annual list ranks the wealthiest people in the UK, with notable inclusions this year being King Charles, Richard Branson, Elton John, JK Rowling and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty.
The list is topped by Gopi Hinduja and family (who own the industry and finance giant Hinduja Group) for the fifth successive year, having accrued a net wealth of £35bn.
The richest person living in the vicinity of Newbury is the musical theatre impresario Andrew Lloyd-Webber who is currently worth £504m and ranks 283rd on the list.
Lord Lloyd-Webber lives in Sydmonton Court, a country house he purchased in 1978, that is located just south of the Berkshire/Hampshire border.
His source of wealth is his entertainment company Really Useful Group, of which he is the sole owner.
Lord Iliffe and his family, who own the Yattendon estate and the media and property-focused Yattendon Group, ranked 338th on the list with a wealth of £389m.
The Newbury Weekly News is owned by Lord Iliffe’s son Edward as part of the Iliffe Media Group, which contains more than 30 local newspapers throughout the UK.
Joe Hemani, who owns the Theale-based IT company Westcoast, ranked 342nd on the list. He is worth £365m.
