Local restaurants awarded Michelin stars

The Woodspeen and The Harrow at little Bedwyn both given prestigious stars in latest Michelin Guide

CHEF John Campbell has done it again after his new restaurant, The Woodspeen, was awarded a Michelin star – less than a year after opening – while the Harrow at Little Bedwyn was also awarded the prestigious rating for the 10th year in a row.

The two restaurants have both been awarded the stars in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2016 published today (Thursday).

The Woodspeen, which opened in October 2014 as a personal project for Mr Campbell, is housed at the site of the old Five Bells pub which dates back to 1827.

A regular guest presenter on television programmes such as and , the chef previously won two Michelin stars during his eight-year stint at nearby Stockcross hotel The Vineyard.

Over the border in Wiltshire, owners of the Harrow at Little Bedwyn, Roger and Sue Jones, were also celebrating after retaining their Michelin star for the 10th year in a row.

Mr Jones said: “We’re absolutely elated. We were nervous, this year more than most with it being our 10th year which is something that very few people manage to do.

“The key is consistency, we have some customers who visit us once a week and others who come perhaps once in a lifetime and it’s important to make sure everyone gets the same service and leaves with a smile on their face.”

The rest of Berkshire can once again boast a range of Michelin star restaurants with L’Ortolan in Shinfield near Reading awarded its 14th Michelin star while the world-renowned Waterside Inn in Bray has retained its three Michelin stars. The Hinds Head, owned by Heston Blumenthal and The Royal Oak (both also in Bray) received one star each.
