Good morning and welcome to our live blog of the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council elections.

The borough council elects in thirds, meaning that one councillor from each of the 18 wards – and two in the Whitchurch, Overton and Laverstoke ward after a resignation – is up for election.

The Conservatives currently have an overall majority of the council after scooping 33 of the 54 seats in last year’s all out election.

Labour have 10 seats, the independent forum comprising the Basingstoke and Deane Independents (BDI) and one other independent member have six seats, and the Liberal Democrats have five seats.

In this year's election, 11 Conservative seats are up for election, four Labour, two Liberal Democrat, one BDI and one independent seat.

Although the election took place yesterday, the count is being conducted today at Hampshire Court Hotel in Chineham.

The first results are expected at around midday.
