Life’s sweet at 16 for songwriting social media sensation Olivia Macbeth
Newburytoday has been keeping an eye on the career of Newbury’s Olivia Macbeth since we first featured her two years ago as a 14-year-old songwriting social media sensation. Time for a catch-up.
Earlier this month she released a new song and a music video dropped last week.
The song is called Kiss Goodbye, a sassy, catchy song about leaving a “relationship behind for the best”.
Now 16, she is at Tring Park School For The Performing Arts studying musical theatre and also three A-levels.
“I am six weeks in and absolutely loving it,” Liv told arts editor Trish Lee.
“I am being trained at an industry level in singing, dance and acting.
“I will be here for two years and then will hopefully move on to another drama school after.”
And she continues to achieve some amazing things.
In December, she was invited to sing at ‘The Actors Church’, the beautiful theatre venue in the centre of Covent Garden, for a West End Christmas concert.
“It was the most amazing night and I felt so lucky to be singing alongside such successful people who were performing in shows in the West End at the time.
“Then, in April of this year, I was invited back to do the same which was just as brilliant.
“And just to top it off, I have been asked to sing in the Christmas concert again this year, I am so excited!”
Liv has been enjoying singing live at the open mic nights at The Newbury pub with Sion Whiley and will also will be performing on the main stage at the Newbury Christmas lights turning on festival and “I cannot wait!” she said.
Due to her GCSEs, she has been too busy to release a song for a year, so she is really happy to finally be able to so now.
“I co-wrote the song with musical genius Darren Martyn, and recorded the song at his studio in Tottenham early this year.”
Darren Martyn is a London-based multi-talented singer, songwriter and “multi-platinum selling” record producer.
“I have a professional music video out for the song. It was shot by Anton Califano at the Barbican Centre in London and “it is great, if I do say so myself,” said Liv.
Califano is an independent filmmaker and cinematographer based in London, making commercial work for brands, music videos and documentaries, including broadcast television credits with BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky Arts.
He has been making independent documentary and fiction films for more than 15 years,
“I really love the song and think it is my best so far. I hope my audience loves it as much as I do.”
