Jobs ‘safe’ as Hungerford Co-op closes

HUNGERFORD’S High Street Co-op is to close, store bosses have confirmed.

The good news is, there will be no redundancies.

A spokesman for the Co-op chain said: “Co-op regularly reviews all of its sites and it is only after careful consideration that any decision to sell a store is taken.

“We can confirm that contracts have been exchanged on the sale of the store.

“A priority has been to safeguard local jobs, and colleagues – who have been informed – will transfer to the store’s new operator.

“We would like to thank the community for their support of the store over the years.”

The store is expected to close as a Co-op on April 27.
