A new jazz bar may be coming to Newbury
Spotlight bakery Limited has put in a premises license application for a new jazz bar on Northbrook Street.
The Bakers Jazz Bar is hoped to be located in the unit where café, Hog and Hedge once sat, between Marks & Spencer and gift shop Between The Lines.
Speculation as to if and when the bar may open has begun online on local message boards, with some eagerly anticipating the idea of a new jazz venue.
Hog and Hedge, closed in September 2020 due to pressures put on the business from the pandemic.
It is currently home to a pop-up textile shop, opened on October 16 by The National Needlework Archive (NNA).
The former café will now potentially be a venue for live music.
As well as live music, the premises license has requested to play recorded music from 7am - 11pm Monday to Saturday and from 7am - 9pm on Sunday.
All live music is to be limited to between 12pm-11pm Monday to Saturday and 7am – 9pm on Sundays.
The supply of alcohol has been proposed from 11am – 11pm Monday to Saturday and 11am – 9pm on Sundays.
This alcohol will be on a sales only basis.
The council has now received the application and representations can be made to the Licensing Authority.
Anyone likely to be affected by the application will need to make a written representation by February 8.
