Internet sensation Zoe Hopkinson from Zoe’s Fancy Cakes demonstrates how to create a fabulous cake topper Mermaid




Newbury has a branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild - a friendly group of beginners and skilled makers who meet to share their passion for the craft.

The monthly meetings, from 7pm to 9pm in the light and airy Newbury College restaurant room , take the form of demonstrations and workshops. Entry is £3.50, £7 for visitors. On Tuesday, June 6, they will be holding a workshop on How to Make an Arum Lily. secretary@newburybsg.co.uk

The group recently held a day of demonstration with Zoe's Fancy Cakes at the Chequers hotel in town. Internet sensation Zoe Hopkinson from Zoe’s Fancy Cakes. Zoe has a following of more than 1.6 million followers and some 60 people joined the demonstration to see her create a fabulous cake topper Mermaid.

The guests were treated to morning coffee and pastries, a light lunch and afternoon tea and cake while the BSG Newbury Branch provided chocolate truffles, a raffle of 17 hampers and each guest went home with a goody bag. The raffle of a free Zoe apron, made especially by Gail Winter from Newbury Stitchers, was won by Jenny Snell.

Squires Kitchen were there for the day to pre-view their new launch, which was very well received, Stag Promotions provided the visual and audio equipment to enable all to see the close up work that Zoe was creating. Zoe bought her shop along and the Newbury BSG Branch had their own shop and a cake topper stall which raised funds for their sponsored charities Cancer Research UK and Young People and Children First.

Cygnets are younger members aged eight to 14 that the group teaches. They meet monthly on the second Saturday of the month from 9.30am to 11.30am at Speen Vllage Hall. The cost for entry is £6.50 - which includes everything needed to make the item in the session and take home. This also includes refreshments (please let the organisers know of any allegens).
