In this week's Newbury Weekly News

The woman, from Thatcham, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A4 near Milkhouse Lane, Marsh Benham.
Another woman, aged 23, and an infant were airlifted to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital where she is said to be in a serious but stable condition.
The infant was uninjured.
Also this week, a professional footballer is facing the prospect of jail for maiming a man in a savage and bloody road rage attack.
The gruesome injuries inflicted by Reading Football Club player Matt Partridge, of Oak Tree Road, Thatcham, shocked hardened police officers.
In other news, a ban on heavy good vehicles using the A339 through Newbury is “highly unlikely”, despite nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels on the road being above Government targets, West Berkshire Council has revealed.
It comes after the European Commission criticised NO2 levels as being “excessive” in many UK cities.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that a spelling mistake on one of Newbury’s eight-foot monoliths will be rectified in the next phase of the way-finding project.
The information post currently points visitors in the direction of Newbury’s bus and railway “sations”.
As always, there’s also a roundup of the week’s entertainment and sport, and of course this week’s £25 free fuel giveaway.
All this plus more in the Newbury Weekly News, on sale every Thursday.
