In this week's Newbury Weekly News

We have your tales of horses being rescued by the fire service at a flooded field at Sulhamstead Hill, travellers stranded on trains and to top it all off, the Vodafone signal also went down for 24-hours.
Also this week, Conservative-controlled West Berkshire Council has been accused of “punishing the district’s poorest" after it voted in favour of a 1.5 per cent increase to the minimum contribution for people who receive council tax assistance.
The decision, which was opposed by all the Liberal Democrats, will see some low income claimants forced to shell out a minimum of 10 per cent rather than the current total of 8.5 per cent.
In other news, The Racecourse Newbury has announced that joint managing director Stephen Higgins has resigned from his role with immediate effect.
The Newbury Weekly News has spoken to his successor, Julian Thick.
Meanwhile, six long standing blood donors from West Berkshire have been celebrated for rolling up their sleeves.
The donors had all given 75 or 100 donations – a feat managed only by three and one per cent respectively of the population eligible to donate.
As always, there’s also a roundup of the week’s entertainment and sport, and of course this week’s £25 free fuel giveaway.
All this plus more in the Newbury Weekly News, on sale every Thursday.
