West Berkshire Council announces food waste caddy liner and soil conditioner free giveaways in March
West Berkshire Council has announced two giveaways to help residents become more green this month.
The council is giving out compostable food waste caddy liners to make recycling easier as well as soil conditioner to help people with their gardens – both for free.
Until March 31, West Berkshire residents can collect a free roll of the caddy liners from all council libraries, the council offices in Market Street and Tilehurst Parish Council.
Proof of address or library card is required, and the council has asked residents to only take one roll per household.
The council has teamed up with its waste management provider Veolia once again to give away free soil conditioner.
The giveaway will take place at the Padworth Integrated Waste Management Facility on Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23, from 10am to 4pm.
Residents hoping to take advantage of the giveaway must take their own containers to transport the soil conditioner as it will be provided loose.
They must also take proof of address.
No commercial vehicles will be allowed as this event is strictly for residents.
The soil conditioner is produced at Padworth’s In-Vessel Composting Facility and is made from the food and garden waste collected from households within the district.
Stuart Gourley (Lib Dem, Newbury Clay Hill), the council’s executive portfolio holder for the environment and highways, said: “We’re delighted to again offer these two fantastic giveaways throughout March.
“These events have been incredibly popular in the past, and we hope more residents take advantage of them this year.
“Whether you’re recycling food waste or enriching your garden, we’re here to support you so don’t miss out – make sure you mark these dates in your calendar and help spread the word.”
