With 28 TV appearances, most noticeably as the primary filming location of the television series Downton Abbey, the opulent interiors, extensive grounds and scenic walks have captured the heart of the UK.

The so-called ‘Bridgerton effect’, seems to be drawing attention to the rich history that the British countryside offers and the popular Netflix series has led to a serious spike in interest for stately homes, according to the rail company.

With the official start of autumn, the season provides a perfect backdrop for picturesque gardens and rich history, all of which can evidently be found at the North Hampshire home.

Highclere Castle’s breathtaking views and remarkable collections, including its Egyptian exhibition, have secured this Jacobethan and Italianate castle a place among the best.

It was ranked 10th in the listings for the whole UK, with Blenheim Palace, just up the road in Oxfordshire, topping the pile.

The castle was ranked second in the South West, coming in just behind Hampton Court Palace.

Highclere achieved an overall score of 67.7/100, earned a staggering 33,100 five-star reviews and boasts the highest number of TV appearances in the South West.
