There has been a high demand at Reading's Royal Berkshire Hospital’s (RBH) Accident and Emergency (A&E) department today (Tuesday).

It was extremely busy at 2pm with 160 patients at the unit.

RBH communications officer Lisa Vine said: “We want to ensure that those who need life-saving treatment can get it.

“For urgent care please use the Reading Urgent Care Centre (UCC), located in the Broad Street Mall or call 111nhs.uk to make sure you’re getting the most appropriate service for you.”

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust asked patients to only use the UCC for urgent medical attention that are not life-threatening situations, like sprains, minor burns or cuts.

The UCC is open from 8am-8pm, every day.
