Newbury Town Council seeks residents views while it creates a Neighbourhood Development Plan for the town

Newbury Town Council is asking for residents’ views on the town and its future as part of the council’s creation of a Neighbourhood Development Plan.

A Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) is a document created by the local community which sets out planning policies for the neighbourhood area – in this instance, Newbury.

The council has released a survey for residents to complete and those who partake in it can help decide where new homes, shops and offices should be built, what they should look like and what infrastructure new developments should provide.

The survey also covers community, cultural and sports facilities, as well as heritage, business and facilities for young people.

In addition, it also asks for views on biodiversity and climate change.

Chairman of the NDP Steering Group, councillor Nigel Foot (Lib Dem, West Fields), said, “We met recently to consider how our survey was progressing and found we needed more responses from residents under 20 and those over 60 years of age.

“It’s important we hear from young people, as this is their future, and we also value the experience and ideas of residents who are over 60.

“We want to know what you like about Newbury, and we would welcome any ideas you have to improve it.

“If you have views on the scale, height and design of developments, or if you’re concerned about the climate emergency, flooding or air quality, now is your chance to let us know.”

The deadline to complete the survey is January 31, 2023, and it can be accessed at https://www.newbury.gov.uk/ndp/ndp-survey/

If you would like a paper copy of the survey, phone the council on 07399 117524 and one will be sent to you.
