Grateful family to hold musical fundraiser in memory of Newbury man
Jamie Lawrenson (pictured), from Newbury, was found in a critical condition at his home on December 17.
South Central Ambulance and Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance were called to the scene and tried to revive him.
His mother-in-law Caroline Love-lock said: “The ambulance crews were absolutely brilliant – they ran up the stairs, one of them even his hit his head and was bleeding.
"They just worked wonders – they were fantastic.”
They flew Mr Lawrenson to Southampton General Hospital, but it was found that he had no brain activity and the family decided to turn off his life-support machines.
However, thanks to the work of the ambulance crews on the scene, the hospital was able to keep Mr Lawrenson alive until members of his family arrived at his bedside.
Mrs Lovelock said: “We were able to say goodbye to him, and we watched him take his last breath.
"We were able to hold his hand and touch his hair, and tell him that we loved him and that we were going to miss him.
“Just to be able to cuddle him meant a lot.
"His family all had time to get there.
"Even though they could not save him, they still worked wonders.”
Mr Lawrenson died about 11.22pm that evening.
Following his death, his family wanted to raise money for the air ambulance in recognition of their help.
Mrs Lovelock said: “We will never be able to repay the favour to the men and women who tried their best to save his life – we will be forever in their debt, but we will be forever grateful.
“The air ambulance is struggling for funds at the moment as the Government does not support or fund the air ambulances, so my family and I want to raise as much money as we can to help them keep doing the amazing job they do, and help people who are in our situation in future.”
The family is to hold a music event with a live band, comedy, buffet, karaoke and raffle at the Barleycorn Inn, Marlborough, on February 15 from 7pm.
Tickets are £10 each with buffet included.
