Get your sweatbands on - it's Sport Relief day
Across the country, thousands of people will be taking on a sporting challenge to raise much needed funds for charity.
And West Berkshire is no different.
Pupils at the Castel School will be doing a virtual walk/cycle/wheelchair of Kenya which equates to about five miles each.
Staff at Sainsbury’s in Newbury will be taking part in the Sport Relief Games from today (Fri) until Sunday.
During this time, members of the public will be invited to run, swim or cycle their way to raise cash for the cause, at venues locally including Northcroft, Kennet and Hungerford leisure centres and other venues countrywide.
The Park House School running track will be full of Andy Murray’s, David Beckham’s and Jessica Ennis’s as pupils dress up in sports-themed dress to undertake the Sport Relief mile.
Year 7 pupils will kick-start the sponsored run shortly after 9am, and at lunchtime the track will be open to all years to take part.
Other sporting activities will also be raising funds for the cause at the school throughout the day.
The Racecourse Newbury will also be donating £1 to the charity for every advance ticket purchased online for racedays on Friday and Saturday.
On Monday, pupils at St John’s School in Newbury will be taking part in a sponsored jump to see how many jumps they can do in a minute.
