Former PM's brother, Alexander Cameron, dies at 59 after cancer battle
David Cameron's barrister brother, Alexander Cameron KC, has died after a prolonged struggle with pancreatic cancer, aged 59.
The top criminal barrister died at his home on Tuesday (March 21).
He is remembered as being "one of the best silks at the Criminal Bar" by his former chambers and as "too big to be forgotten" by a resident of Peasemore, where he once served as chairman on the parish council.
Mr Cameron stepped down from the bar shortly after receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2020.
Beata Holeckova's family lived and worked on the Cameron family estate at Peasemore for 13 years. She considered Mr Cameron a close friend.
"He embodied class, selfless humanity, tolerance and he tirelessly fought for justice," she said.
"He worked so hard, loved his family and kept his catchy sense of humour till his last days.
"May God bless you Alex and may you rest in eternal peace."
In 2013, Mr Cameron made history when he appeared in the first television broadcast from the Court of Appeal of England in almost 90 years.
He also represented a range of high-profile clients over his illustrious career, including former newspaper editor Rebekah Brooks in her phone hacking defence in 2013.
Three Raymond Buildings, the law firm where Mr Cameron worked, released the following statement after his death. "It is with immense sadness that Chambers announces the death of Alexander Cameron KC," said a spokesperson.
"Alex was a hugely respected and inspirational head of these Chambers. He will be missed enormously, and our heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Sarah, their children Imogen and Angus, and to his wider family."
Former Prime Minister David Cameron credited his older brother of three years with propelling him to the office of Prime Minister in 2010.
His family will honour his loss with a private funeral. Details of a memorial service will be announced later.
