First drive-in supermarket for Newbury
The supermarket giant says the new service will mean busy customers can pick up their shopping at the Pinchington Lane store, without having to leave their cars.
The aim of the drive-through service is to help busy customers who, having ordered their shopping online, want their shopping picked and packed but do not have time to wait at home for delivery.
Customers will order their shopping as usual on the Tesco website before booking a two-hour collection slot before driving to the covered collection point at the store’s Pinchington Lane store.
Tesco say staff will come to the customer’s car window so there is no need to get out and the shopping is then packed into the boot.
Its the latest supermarket service in crowded market place which has recently seen the expansion of the Waitrose store and the recent openings of Aldi and Morrisons.
Managing Director of grocery home shopping at Tesco, Simon Belsham, said: "We believe this will be especially popular with busy mums who have the school run and children’s activities to manage
"It offers a convenient solution to parents who want to avoid the challenge of shopping in a busy store with children in tow but can’t afford the time to stay in for the shopping to arrive at their door."
"We also expect it to help young professionals who want all the convenience of a pre-picked and packed shop but who cannot commit to waiting at home for delivery .
"They can collect their food shopping on the way home from work or at any other time that suits them during our extensive collection hours."
