Firework event confirmed for Thatcham again this year

An estimated 10,000 people attended the free event last year and the organisers are hoping that this year will be bigger and better.
The 2013 display was sponsored by Ridgeway Skoda in Newbury and raised more than £2,000 for the Poppy Appeal. Money was also raised for Thatcham Memorial Hall and Thatcham Cricket Club.
Last year's organiser and Thatcham resident, Richard Garvie, said that additional fundraising would take place this year to ensure that the event was better funded following a small loss in 2013 due to problems with the weather.
He said: "We almost had to postpone the event last year due to four days of torrential rain, which left the ground in a difficult position.
"This meant that we faced additional expenses on the day of the event that were not budgeted for."
Fundraising events that are being organised include a comedy night, a quiz night and a fundraising dinner.
Following feedback from those who attended the 2013 display, the money raised through fundraising events will pay for additional facilities such as portable toilets, additional lighting and additional speakers placed around the site
Mr Garvie added: "Last year was the first event, and we definitely learned a lot.
"The feedback was great though, and the concerns that were raised have now been included in our plan for this year.
"We still have a lot of planning to do, and much of the details need to be confirmed, but the wheels are rolling and the event this year will be better than ever."

New organisers took over Thatcham fireworks last year after Thatcham Rotary Club stopped hosting the event after 30-years.
