Newbury firefighters respond to 'unsafe' town centre building

Firefighters came to the rescue in Newbury town centre yesterday morning to remove a large piece of lead that was threatening to fall on the street below.

Crews from Newbury Fire Station and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Whitley Wood were sent to Bridge Street at 8.38am after receiving reports of an “unsafe structure”.

Upon arrival, crews found a large piece of lead hanging from a third floor of a building.

It's unclear which building the lead was hanging from.

Crews safely removed the piece of lead using the Aerial Ladder Platform and were on the scene for approximately one hour and five minutes.
