Firefighters battle blaze at Newbury dry cleaners
Road closed with six fire engines at scene
Firefighters from two counties battled a blaze at a Newbury dry cleaners yesterday evening (Mon).
Six fire engines, including two from Newbury, and a further four from Lambourn, Hungerford, Kingsclere and Reading, were called at 8pm to a dry cleaners in Cheap Street.
On arrival firefighters discovered flames in the shop and smoke logged flats above.
The blaze was extinguished by six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, using three hosereels.
The dry cleaners and flats above were empty, however people were evacuated from neighbouring properties and Cheap Street was closed during the incident.
Firefighters left the scene at 11pm.
The cause remains under investigation by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS), but was not believed to be suspicious, according to firefighters at the scene.
