Newbury's St Nicolas Junior School and St John's Infant School join forces to create a stronger federation
TWO Newbury schools have come together to help build relationships and make the transition from infants to juniors even easier, writes Louie Hoyle.
St John's Infant School and St Nicolas Junior School have formed a federation in order for the schools to work together more closely.
The two schools said the partnership will enable them to assist each other in the curriculum.
Keith Harvey, executive headteacher of the St John and St Nicolas Schools Federation, expressed his optimism for the federation.
He said: “This is a really positive opportunity to work for the betterment of everyone’s learning and to allow the students to work together to achieve the best of their education.”
The schools will share a board of directors, as well as curriculums, and the move will also help students transition more easily from St John's to St Nicolas.
The pupils at the schools will also get the chance to better interact with each other and to build relationships between the schools, as well as the opportunity for the students to learn together.
The idea for the federation first came about in January, when the schools got together and came up with the idea but nothing was officially revealed until June of this year.
On October 20, the schools enjoyed a series of activities to celebrate the partnership of the two schools and allow the students to get to know each other.
A cupcake with the federation's new motto - 'For the good of all through curiosity, creativity and love' - was given to all of the children at both schools.
A competition has also been held for pupils to design a new logo for the federation. A shortlist has now been drawn up and a winner will be announced in due course.
