English football legend Sol Campbell gives out top prizes at charity tennis tournament organised by Park House Stables in Kingsclere
An English football legend gave out the top prizes at a charity tennis tournament last month.
Kingsclere’s Park House Stables, which is owned and managed by racehorse trainer Andrew Balding, organised the annual fundraising tournament which supports St Michael’s Hospice in Basingstoke.
Former England international and veteran Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender Sol Campbell gave out the prizes to the top performers at the end of the day.
This year’s tournament took place on Monday, July 10 and it raised over £5,300, an increase on last year’s total.
Several local schoolchildren ranging from the ages of 11 to 14 took part in the event. It was spread out across 16 courts, which were kindly provided by people in the area.
The children who took part met up in the morning at these different courts and played several doubles matches with and against each other.
At 4pm, they all met up back in Kingsclere at the stables where they enjoyed afternoon tea which was provided by Cheam School.
Mr Campbell then presented the awards to the best boy and girl on each court and took photos with all the winners.
The entire day was sponsored by local building company RW Armstrong. The sponsorship made sure that all the money raised on the day went directly to the hospice.
Kingsclere pub Bel & The Dragon kindly provided all the tennis balls for the tournament.
