Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman announced as new club president for Sandford Springs Golf Club
An English footballing legend has traded his goalkeeping gloves for a set of golf clubs.
Sandford Springs Golf Club, a 27-hole golf course and hotel situated on the A339 just east of Kingsclere, has announced that David Seaman is the new club president.
Mr Seaman is England’s second-most capped goalkeeper and during his time at Arsenal he won three league titles, four FA Cups and a League Cup between 1990 and 2003.
The 59-year-old has taken over the club president role from sports broadcaster Dickie Davis, who died earlier this year.
A Sandford Springs spokesperson said: “Sandford Springs Golf Club is proud to announce the appointment of David Seaman as the new club president.
“With a distinguished career as a goalkeeper for Arsenal, England and other top-level football teams, David brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the club.
“As a passionate advocate for golf, David's appointment is a testament to Leaderboard’s commitment to promoting the game and providing its members with the very best.
“David's impressive sporting pedigree, combined with his passion for golf, makes him an ideal candidate to carry on the great work of the late Dickie Davies’ in the role of club president.
“The entire Sandford Springs team is excited to see what the future holds under David's presidency, and we look forward to working with him to build a stronger, more vibrant golf club.”
Sandford Springs is owned by Leaderboard Golf, which also owns The Oxfordshire and Dale Hill in East Sussex.
